About Greece

Officially called the Hellenic Republic, Greece is geographically located in the Balkans and in Southern Europe at the crossroads of Africa, Asia and Europe. Several countries border Greece, including Albania, Bulgaria and Turkey. To the east of Greece lies the Aegean Sea, to the west the Ionian Sea and to the south the Mediterranean Sea. What Schools Offer Business Degrees in Greece?

Higher educational institutes in Greece are abbreviated as A.E.I. and consist of Technological Educational Institutes and Universities. Certain colleges collaborate with international universities to provide undergraduate and graduate programs that are directed by the Greek Ministry of Education.

Students wishing to earn a business degree will find several schools in Greece that cater to the business, finance and management industries. The Athens University of Economics and Business and the ALBA Graduate Business School are two such A.E.I.s.

Greece has both private and public colleges and universities providing various specialized business degrees in business administration, banking, logistics, accounting and entrepreneurship.

Why Earn a Business Degree in Greece?

Although Greece has a fascinating ancient history and beautiful countryside to explore, students may find that due to recent economic issues plaguing Greece, austerity measures have caused the quality of Greek university education to decline considerably. If a student really wants to study in Greece, it is suggested they enroll in an American university program operating in Athens.

How Long is a Greek Academic Year?

September 1st starts the academic year in Greece, which doesn't end until the following August 31st. Several weeks of the academic year are dedicated strictly to examinations. Additionally, each year is punctuated by time off for Easter and Christmas holidays.

Tuition Fees and Length of Business Degrees

State-run universities and college do not charge tuition and provide textbooks free of charge to students. Although most programs are taught in the Greek language, some are offered in different languages. A bachelor's degree in business takes four years to complete. Postgraduate business degrees typically require another two to three years.

Career Possibilities with a Greek Business Degree

Unemployment has remained high in Greece since the government debt crisis in 2010. Students earning business degrees in Greece will find more opportunities for employment outside of Greece until its economy recovers and unemployment rate decreases.

Who can apply for the visa?

Citizens of the EU/EEA do not need a visa to study in Greece. However, if you come from a non-EU country, you need to obtain a student visa. Where can you make the application?

You must apply for your student visa through the Greek consulate that has jurisdiction over your permanent state of residence. Most consulates require you to submit your application in person.

How to make the application?

Normally, you will need the following documents:

  • Application form for a visa for a long stay in Greece fully filled in and signed
  • One recent passport-sized, color photograph
  • Passport that should:

• be of validity exceeding by three months the ending date of the visa length
• have at least two blank pages
• have been issued within the previous ten years

  • Criminal Record Certificate, recent and duly attested
  • Medical fitness certificate
  • Travel medical insurance

Additional documents required:

  • Registration letter and fee payment\
  • Certificate by the Ministry of Education that the educational institution holds a valid license and is registered in the relevant records
  • Proof of adequate knowledge of the English language
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover living expenses, cost of study and repatriation (including eventual scholarship)

Within 40 days after your arrival in Greece, you should apply for a residence permit with the Migration Department. The following documents are normally required:

  • Application Form for a Residence Permit
  • Medical Insurance Certificate, issued by a Greek medical insurance company
  • Medical certificate, issued by a Greek public hospital (CXR, Mantoux test)
  • Receipt of the Residence Permit Fee payment (payment is made at the City Hall)
  • Photocopy of passport
  • Student’s registration letter confirming that the student is registered with Mediterranean College
  • Bank statement confirming that the student has a sufficient amount of money in the bank account to cover the living expenses

When should you apply?

You should make your application 8-12 weeks prior to your planned arrival to Greece.

The length of your student visa depends on the length of your study program. The renewal of the residence permit is annual.

Work opportunities

If you are from the EU/EEA, you are allowed to work.

If you are from outside the EU/EEA, you can apply for a permit that allows you to do some part-time work while you study, to support yourself financially. When you’ve finished with your studies, however, this part-time work permit cannot be converted to the regular one, even if you find an employer to hire you full time. You would still need to apply separately for a work visa.
